The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of the facility and members by preventing and responding to emergencies.  This position reports to the Aquatics Coordinator.

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations
  • Inspect the facility daily and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the recreation supervisors
  • Complete records and reports
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Skills and Qualifications

  • Candidates must have current certification in the following:
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid
    • Pre-employment testing of lifeguarding skills and knowledge
  • Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
  • An understanding facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures
  • Leadership and customer service skills
  • Ability to operate assigned equipment
  • Effectively communicate with others
  • Decision-making skills

 

Physical requirements/ work environment

  • Walking and standing for extended periods of time
  • Running, walking, crouching or crawling during
  • Swimming throughout shift
  • Lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to adverse weather conditions

 Salary: 16.00/hour
